MIXED ZONE, the third exhibition in our series "in another place", brings together 4 very different artistic positions - each of which opens up a different perspective on the theme. Claudia von Funcke's installation DISPLACEMENT shows an imaginary high-rise housing estate, inspired by the "Orgues de Flandres", a building complex in the brutalist style from the 1970s in Paris, which could stand in London, Manhattan, Berlin (Gropiusstadt, Marzahn), Frankfurt - or in any other place in the centre or periphery of any megalopolis. The work characterises the urban dramaturgy of power and shows the alienation and displacement of people into the margins and anonymity. The perspective seems condensed, superimposed and shifted, becoming groundless speculation. Perception becomes perforated and blurred, pointing to a possible otherness of reality. We find ourselves in an indecipherable place in nowhere. The sculptor Claudia von Funcke studied at the Munich Academy of Arts and at the Architectural Association in London. This was followed by awards such as the Stahlkunstpreis NRW or the Kunstpreis Neukölln 2018, among others, as well as further scholarships. Her video installations, objects and photographs are shown nationally and internationally, most recently in Cairo, Seoul and Melbourne. The sculpture "Landgang. is the continuation of Silvia Lorenz's concept of nomadic sculptures in the sense of "soft sculpture". Cardboard boxes serve as building material for spatial objects with architectural associations, ambulant set pieces for temporary, mobile installations. Change of perspective and displacement. "The nomadic as a basic feeling is probably strongest in the work "Landgang": both components on wheels, so they also arrive in the gallery. One place among many on the way, in the city's huge open-cast mine, from whose resources they also come: The scrap metal of the carrying frames: a rolling bag , a basket collector from the supermarket - the load of the carrying frames: product packaging . "Urban mining" ; the anthropogenic warehouse. Silvia Lorenz lives in Berlin and Dresden. Frank Diersch's works have already been shown in several solo and group exhibitions at Walden Kunstausstellungen since 2007. Frank Diersch was a master student/scholarship holder at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. He received the Egmont Schäfer Prize for Drawing, Berlin in 1998 and the Brandenburg Art Prize in 2018. Since 2017, his show Drawing Radio has been on air at Radio Woltersdorf, and from 2 July his work can be seen at the BLMk's Packhof in Frankfurt Oder. The visual world of the work cycle TANNHÄUSER TOR by the Berlin draughtsman and painter Alekos Hofstetter is significantly influenced by modernist architecture. In his drawings on paper, the process of reflecting on the concepts of time and memory plays a decisive role. In his drawings, created in mixed media (including ink, coloured pencils and permanent marker), he constructs a new relationship between architecture and its surroundings by superimposing drawing layers. Alone through the progressive disappearance of post-war modern architecture from our environment, the failure of its former utopian promises becomes obvious and the resulting experience of loss is also thematised in Hofstetter's work. In 2011, Alekos Hofstetter began the work cycle "TANNHÄUSER TOR". This work, which continues to this day, deals with the architectural impact of post-war modernism. Images and installations from the TANNHÄUSER TOR cycle were also featured in René Pollesch's plays. Most recently in 2021 at the Vienna Festival DIE GEWEHRE DER FRAU KATHRIN ANGERER, in 2019 in BLACK MARIA, Deutsches Theater Berlin and in 2018 "KALIFORNIA/ GRACE SLICK, TRWarszawa/ PL. In 2019 Hofstetter realised in collaboration with Prof. Nina von Mechow the stage design for "Freischütz", (directed by Jossi Wieler) at the Strasbourg Opera House Opéra national du Rhin. For productions at the Deutsches Theater Berlin, he worked together with Nina von Mechow with director Karin Henkel in 2018 and with Martin Wuttke at the Burgtheater in Vienna in 2012. Alekos Hofstetter lives and works in Berlin. His works have been shown in solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad._________________________________________________________________ |
