“Arcade” is a video intervention that explores the space between perception and projection. Subtle and almost clandestine, it appears within the everyday advertising stream of the Neukölln Arcaden, installed across twelve out-of-home screens on five floors. Under the festival’s theme, OUT/SIDE/IN,.the video interrupts the familiar urban imagery for a brief moment of just ten seconds, transforming it into a hyper-stylized comic reality — with sharper lines, louder colors, and exaggerated movements. The intervention guides the audience through a sequence of visual worlds that feel both familiar and strange. It raises the question of how much of our surroundings we truly see — and how much we unconsciously invent. “Arcade” breaks the logic of the everyday and translates it into a visual language reminiscent of arcade games or graphic novels. The boundaries between observation and imagination begin to dissolve. The comic-like distortion becomes a mirror of reality, exaggerating its structures and making them visible. What emerges is an in-between space where perception is playfully deconstructed and reality and fiction merge. deutsch „Arcade“ ist eine Videointervention, die den Raum zwischen Wahrnehmung und Projektion auslotet. Subtil, beinahe klandestin, erscheint sie mitten in der alltäglichen Werbeflut der Neukölln Arcaden: verteilt auf 12 Out-of-Home-Screens über 5 Etagen.

Die Installation RGB von Reinhold Gottwald verbindet das Analoge mit dem Digitalen. Inspiriert von einer defekten Bilddatei ist ein großformatiges Wandbild entstanden (260 x 600 cm). „We are not“ könnte man auf Barnett Newmans „Who‘s Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue“ antworten. Der bei Newman praktizierte Minimalismus wird in der Arbeit RGB allerdings durch ein digitales Video gestört, erweitert und irritiert. Die Ausstellung wird ergänzt durch Texte und weitere aktuelle Arbeiten des Künstlers, die den Raum nach außen hin erweitern. |
15.10. bis 30.10.2021 Walden Kunstausstellungen • Berlin The RGB installation combines the analogue with the digital. Inspired by a defective image file, a large-format mural was created (260 x 600 cm). "We are not" one could answer to Barnett Newman's "Who's Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue". The work is therefore also a small homage. However, the minimalism practiced in Newman's work is disturbed, expanded and irritated by a digital video. The exhibition is complemented by texts and other current works by the artist, which expand the gallery space to the outside.
